Adventure 2 : War and Land

Adventure 2 : Joshua 9 - 16

The beginning of this part of scripture sees Israel's army taking kings and lands by the sword, conquering territory after territory as the Lord commanded them to. The important thing to remember is how their success and strength came from the power of God. That the Lord, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

Hearing about the many nations that Israel defeated, I marvel at the absolute power of God. He is truly stronger than any king, nation or power that has ever existed. Like a director, author or scriptwriter, we see God's playing a part and his hand writing out the history and fate of the Israelites.

Our God, the Conquering God.

And I know that does not just apply to physical war battles. We all face battles in our lives, whether they be spiritual, mental or material. I think it is amazing to know that God even has power over these battles. And he will say to us, be strong and courageous, do not be afraid. I will be with you, I will be your sword and strength.

Before any famous storybooks now wrote their wars, we see many wars penned in the Bible which were tactically, strategically fought by the Israelites, but with an Almighty, living God by their side, to receive the land that was promised to their forefathers.

Towards the later chapters of the book of Joshua, we see the division and allocation of the lands according to the tribes. It is interesting to see how detailed and how it was explained. We see the fulfillment of a promise made a long time ago. We all know the story of the wall of Jericho, but Israel's success does not stop there. With God's help, Israel continues to be a conquering nation. It is the story of what happens after the walls of Jericho come down, the building of the great nation.
