Adventure 9 and 10

Adventure 9 and 10

We get more insight into the character of David. The shepherd boy who dares with courage to stand up against a Giant. He says he does not defeat Goliath with a sword or spear, but with the power of God. No matter hos big and powerful the enemy seems, the battle belongs to the Lord, and he can defeat any army and power. God continuously saves and protects David, granting him victory after victory. And we see Saul's jealousy growing and growing.

We also see the strong friendship between David and Jonathan. A friendship so strong that they weep when they have to part. Jonathan is even willing to risk his life to go against his father, knowing that David has done no wrong. Life is enriched by the friends God has given us and placed in our lives. That through the thick and thin, they stand by us. Later on, we will see how David kept his promise to Jonathan to take care of his family and line. It must have been a struggle to Jonathan. He loved his father, Saul, yet he had to see his father fall.

What struck me was how David wept for his enemies and the people who were against him. We would think the normal, human thing to do would be to rejoice and be happy when the people who are oppressing you are taken away. Instead, David wept for the lost of men, as well as Saul who was once God's choice as king. He wept for those who chased and pursued him. Even though he lived with them as a burden, he was not relieved and happy they are gone, but he wept for the lives that were lost.

Then we see another aspect of David, who expressed his joy and worship unto God. He does not think of what is proper etiquette or what others would think. He is filled with immeasurable joy, which he expresses in song and dancing. He is free to praise God, and so are we.
