Adventure 7 : Listen

Adventure 7 : 1 Samuel 1 - 7

"Speak for your servant is listening..." v.10

From a young age, Samuel was dedicated to serve the Lord with Eli. I wonder how it must have been, learning and watching up close the work of God in the temple. It also must have been hard for Samuel to be away from his mother and family, but Eli too was like his family. The really amazing thing is that Samuel heard the voice of the Lord calling from him and responded in obedience.

Hearing the voice of God. It brings about many questions, like how do we know it's his voice and not ours? How do we hear God's voice? I have countless conversations and discussions about hearing God's voice, and I am still inspired and amazed at the stories and testimonies of my friends who have heard the voice of God. Do you hear it when you speak to a friend? Do you hear God's voice through his word, or when you pray. However God speaks to us, we must be willing to listen and respond like the young Samuel, saying "Speak Lord for your servant is listening."

Someone once told me, once you start responding to the voice of God, his voice becomes clearer and clearer. Sometimes it is that small, still voice that seems to speak to you from your head. Like a young baby learning and recognizing his mother's voice as he listens, I think it's like that with us and God too.

So often, we are so quick to speak and so slow to listen.
Listen.
