Adventure 5 : Judges 8 - 15
With this account, we see how easily the human heart can be swayed to go back to sin and its own ways. After the death of Gideon, the Israelites were back to worshipping false Gods. It makes me see how weak we really are, we so easily forget God's grace, love and all the things he has done and who he is. Despite being God's chosen people, and seeing the acts and miracles God, the Israelites too stumbled once Gideon died.
Looking at the frailty and the weakness of the human heart, it makes me see how important it is to have a strong foundation in the word of God. True friends that keep us accountable and help us to fine the right track again are also a tremendous blessing in our lives. When God seems far away, and when worldly values are so much closer and easier, let me not crumble but remain steadfast in faithfulness by the grace of God.
Another thing that stood out to me was how it was asked if the people have acted honourably and in good faith by making Abimelek king? I do think that it is a good question to stop and ask ourselves, to ask if we are acting in the will and love of God.
