Adventure 8 : Looking beyond what is outside...

Adventure 8 : 1 Samuel 8 -16

This is the start of kingship of Saul. He was chosen, favoured by God and God's anointed one. Saul was the one God has chosen to be king over his people, to lead, guide and unite them as the people wanted. He started on the right track, giving glory to God and being obedient to him. And then, after that we see how he falls away from God. He became greedy, and he valued what people thought over what God thought of him.

Which led God to anoint the young shepherd boy as the next king of Israel. The youngest, and who seemed to be the weakest amongst his brother, even his father did not think that David was the one that Samuel was looking for.

"Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart."

David, the young shepherd boy, would grow up to be one of the greatest kings Israel had to see. The one who they would say is the king after God's own heart, the youngest son of Jesse and would make Israel a great nation. This is where his journey starts.

We ask God, that we too may learn to look beyond what we see. And that God will open the eyes of our heart, to look at the heart of others instead of the outward appearance. We want God to transform our heart, to change more and more into the likeness of Jesus. The strong and great in God's eyes, come in all sort of shapes and sizes. The heart of God may not always be hidden in the big and beautiful packaging. It might be hidden, in smaller and seemingly weaker packages.

Only through the eyes of God, will we see the heart.
