Day 9. Psalms 42-52.

Psalm 44 seems to be in two basic sections

Verses 1-8
Verses 9-26

The first eight verses praise God and his goodness towards Israel, the second section describes how despite this, the present state of affairs is unpleasant and they were undergoing great suffering.
'You have made us the like sheep for slaughter and have scattered us among the nations.'(Psalm 44:11)
'Yet for your sake we are killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered'(Psalm 44:22)

The author claims that their suffering is for no reason, for no unrighteousness on their own part
'Our heart has not turned back, nor have our steps departed from your way;'(Psalm 44:18)

What I like about this, is that Paul quotes one of the verses above(Psalm 44:22), and applies it to the Christian(Romans 8:36). But when Paul quotes it, he does it to show that nothing is able to separate us from the love of God.

34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?36 As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
    we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Romans 8:36-39)
